September was a very busy month! In addition to Copenhagen, I also made a trip to the Amalfi Coast, Italy. My parents have always gushed about how gorgeous the Amalfi Coast is, and so it was on the top of my lists of places to travel while in Europe.
Because of the complicated nature of traveling from city to city along the coast, my friends and I decided to get our taste of Italy on a guided trip using the company Bus2Alps. Bus2Alps provides pre-planned trips to predominately American students studying abroad in Europe, complete with transportation, guides, and hospitality. I was very wary about using the company, but it made a lot of sense for our Amalfi trip based on the little time we had and a large amount of land we had to cover. We chose to book the Silver Route, which provided transportation from Rome to Sorrento and included trips to Positano, Capri, and Pompeii.

Our hostel was located in Sorrento, so after arriving in Rome we drove by bus for approximately 3 hours Thursday night. Our hostel, Costa Alta, was our home base for our day trips to Positano and the island of Capri. Friday morning, we headed to the small town of Positano where we lounged on the beach and got to see friends who were also traveling on the Bus2Alps trip.
Positano is known for its hilly landscape and the colorful homes which are stacked one on top of the other throughout the inlet. Although the view was gorgeous from the beach, we decided to take a boat tour of the other nearby coastal towns. Our group of 6 joined another 6 gals from Wake Forrest and we headed out into the Mediterranean to cliff jump and swim in bright blue sea caves! After a long beach day, we headed back to Sorrento for a huge pasta dinner and some gelato, because what else would we do?
The next day we woke up bright and early to catch a ferry to the island of Capri. Once we arrived, we boarded another boat and did a full tour of the island, seeing the Blue Grotto, the Love Rocks, and many villas belonging to the rich & famous.

Once back on land, we made our way up to Capri Town to see a beautiful lookout and then continued up to Anacapri. In Anacapri, we found a small pizzeria where I watched an old Italian man make my Margherita pizza from scratch. I thought I was going to shed a tear. Because we were short on time, I had to take my pizza to-go and ended up devouring it while sitting on the chairlift up to Mount Solaro. Once on top of the mountain, we got to see views of the entire island which we had just toured from sea level, which I thought was breathtaking.

From there, we walked back down to the Marina Grande to catch the ferry back to Sorrento, where we enjoyed another huge Italian pasta dinner and even more gelato!
Sunday morning, we packed our bags and said our goodbyes to the coast and we headed inland to Pompeii. I have always read about Pompeii in history books but it was fascinating to see it in person. I had absolutely no idea how large it was. You could easily spend three days exploring Pompeii alone! I did not do the guided tour, but I did enjoy getting to wander around and see the ancient city on my own.
Although we only got a quick glimpse of Amalfi, it was absolutely a weekend well spent. Don’t worry, I’ll be back one day solely for the gelato!
